Cambridge debates sharing building control services

Cambridge City Council is considering sharing its building control service with to other local authorities.

The council is exploring proposals to share its services with South Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire District Councils, saying the plans would reduce costs and improve flexibility.

Cambridge already shares some of its services with other nearby local authorities including payroll and internal audit services.

Cllr Kevin Blencowe, the council’s executive councillor for planning policy and transport, said: ‘Our building control team has a strong reputation for high quality work so we will need to look carefully at the detail before pressing ahead.

‘This is what we have done with other shared services because we need to make sure it’s the right decision for our residents, customers and the council itself.’
