Broxtowe Borough Council is looking to move to a leader and cabinet model of decision making.
The council has agreed in principle to move away from its current committee-style leadership system, arguing this would provide swifter and more streamlined decision-making.
It said a new style of governance would enable it to make a stronger case for devolved powers, which are only available to councils with a 'strong and accountable’ leader and cabinet system.
The council is only one of three local authorities in the county to operate under a committee-style leadership system. The other two - Nottinghamshire County Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council - have both agreed to move to a cabinet system by May 2022.
A statement from the council said: 'To enable greater transparency and cross-party involvement in the decision-making process, the current Broxtowe Borough Council leader has stated an intention to move to a more politically balanced cabinet than currently operating at other districts throughout the county.'
