Blackpool mothballs £320k visitor attraction

Blackpool mothballs £320k visitor attraction image

A £320,000 high ropes course funded by Blackpool Council has been mothballed after visitor numbers dropped.

The attraction, which is based at Blackpool Sports Centre on the edge of Stanley Park, was launched in 2015.

The council said it had been popular with schools, community groups and casual users before the Covid-19 pandemic.

But when it reopened, many of these users ‘found themselves in a difficult financial situation’ and the number of bookings dropped considerably, according to the local authority.

Amid increased operational costs, the council decided to temporarily close the attraction.

A spokesperson said: ‘In order to prevent any further losses, the high ropes were effectively “mothballed” pending possible investment into outdoor activities at Stanley Park.’
