The leader of Birmingham City Council has warned that the city’s food banks are ‘running short of supplies’.

The city council’s leader, Ian Ward, said that he had been in contact with food banks, food clubs and food pantries across Birmingham.

They told the council that the cost-of-living crisis meant that demand was growing ‘week on week’, according to Cllr Ward.

The council leader also warned that some were ‘running short of supplies earlier and earlier each week.’

‘I find it staggering in a first world nation that so many people are struggling to feed themselves and their children,’ he said.

‘The sad fact is that more and more people turning to food banks are in work and still can’t afford spiralling prices and the Government should be ashamed. The situation is bad and it's getting worse.’
