Birmingham City Council has been granted a court order to stop protests outside of its bin lorry depots as the latest move in the long-running pay dispute.

The local authority said it saw an increase in disruption last week as police reduced their presence at its depots and protesters stopped vehicles from carrying out collections.

On Friday evening, the council reported it had secured an interim injunction which would last until Thursday when a further legal hearing will take place.

Unite, which represents the council workers engaged in the dispute, argues the actions of its members on picket lines are peaceful and lawful.
