The Conservatives have proposed a multi-million-pound plan to fix the country’s pothole-ridden road network, which includes providing road-repair machines to councils.

Launched ahead of the local elections in May, the National Pothole Patrol plan will also include a single national platform for reporting potholes and will reportedly be funded by cuts to Government communications contracts.

‘To get Britain working again, we have to fix Britain’s roads. And only the Conservatives will get it done,’ Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said on X.

A Labour spokesperson told the Daily Mail that road maintenance had not been given the 'funding needed' while the Conservatives were in power, adding that the Government was delivering its 'biggest-ever investment in road maintenance'.

According to the latest Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey, local roads across England and Wales face a record £18.62bn repair backlog that would take 12 years to clear.
