Art has been stolen from a public sculpture installation outside Wakefield Council’s headquarters.
The sculptures, entitled ‘The Auguries (Last Calls)’, are part of the Wakefield Sculpture Trail, which was funded through £1m from the Government.
The bronze structures by artist Andy Holden represent the songs of birds with rapidly declining populations, with recordings of their sounds 'translated into 3D wave songs' and then cast in metal.
Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, Hannah Appleyard, criticised the ‘senseless’ damage to the artwork after the 'key' pieces were stolen on Thursday night.
She added: ‘It’s very frustrating and sad that someone has wilfully destroyed something like this.’
The Yorkshire council urged anyone with information to contact the police, and said it had shared its CCTV with officers.
