Local authorities can now bid for the latest round of the Air Quality Grant to reduce air pollution in their local areas.
The £7m fund will pay for a range of projects to reduce the impact of air pollution on people’s health.
This year's grant will focus on projects that reduce air pollution where there are nitrogen dioxide (NO2) exceedances, improve public knowledge about air quality, and include measures to deal with particulate matter.
Environment minister Steve Double said: 'Air quality has improved significantly since 2010 but we know that it remains the biggest environmental risk to public health.
'This is why we have today opened applications for millions of pounds worth of additional funding for local authorities so they can take the action needed to cut air pollution and improve air quality awareness in their areas.'
The Air Quality Grant scheme has awarded more than £81m since it was established.
