Noisy drivers have been fined 334 times in two months after acoustic cameras caught nuisance driving in Kensington and Chelsea.
The council's nine cameras were triggered 1,386 times between 1 August and 30 September, around 23 times a day. The loudest vehicle reached 113.7 decibels, comparable to a rock concert.
When triggered, the cameras capture evidence that council officers can review and use to issue Fixed Penalty Notices, allowing enforcement at any time of day or night without an officer present.
Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member for Resident Services, Planning and Enforcement, said the figures were 'shocking' and showed why the council had invested in the technology. He warned drivers they would 'pay the price' for disturbing residents.
The borough was the first in the country to pilot its own acoustic cameras, in 2020. A borough-wide Public Spaces Protection Order prohibits engine revving, racing and stunts, with breaches punishable by a £100 fine.
