Warwickshire in talks over WMCA move

Senior Government ministers are brokering talks between Mayor Andy Street and Warwickshire CC as the county looks at joining the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), The MJ understands.

Council leader Izzi Seccombe confirmed discussions were underway, but suggested a move towards full membership was not yet a done deal.

Shropshire CC and Telford & Wrekin Council are also believed to be considering their options following the Government’s announcement earlier this year that it planned to scrap Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Under current rules, Warwickshire would have to seek the approval of all constituent members of the WMCA before it could join.
