Wandsworth Borough Council has started an e-scooter rental trial to encourage safer and greener travel on public roads.

The trial, run by Transport for London (TfL), Lime and Voi will enable members of the public to rent e-scooters from any of the 170 parking bays stationed across the borough.

Anyone with a valid driving license is eligible for the rental scheme, but riding privately owned e-scooters on roads and pavements is still prohibited by law.

The rental scheme is part of the local authority’s commitment to promoting more environmentally friendly and efficient travel options in the community, with the aim of reaching net zero by 2043.

Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: ‘We want to support people in Wandsworth to make more sustainable travel choices if they can, and this e-scooter trial will allow us to see if rental e-scooters can offer a safe and convenient alternative to car journeys.’
