The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is set to introduce school uniform grants for families on low incomes.

The council has proposed setting aside £1m to pay for the grants, which will be offered to families with household incomes up to £50,350.

Families will be able to claim £50 per child entering primary school and £150 per child entering secondary school.

The council estimates the proposal would provide 21,000 children with support to buy school uniforms.
