Atkins has been appointed by Slough Borough Council to provide highways and transportation consultancy services across the borough.
The contract will run for five years, extendable for a further five years. It comprises the development and implementation of the council’s transportation policies, the co-ordination and monitoring of all action plans and stakeholder consultation.
Congestion levels in Slough are set to rise, due to increasing levels of travel to major destinations such as London and Heathrow. Atkins will assist the council in delivering its transport and community strategies to develop the existing transport infrastructure. Improving road safety, air quality and reducing carbon emissions will also form elements of the new strategy.
Atkins is already working with the council on their bus strategy proposals to improve public transport and accessibility in the area. A new transport interchange also form part of the proposals and will have an influence on the future development of Slough’s transport strategy. This regeneration project worth in excess of £400m will assist in tackling social exclusion by providing an effective public transport link to enable access to employment, education, health and leisure facilities across the borough.
Atkins are due to commence work in April 2007.
