Sikh couple wrong ‘cultural heritage’ to adopt white child, agency says

A Sikh couple have begun legal action against an adoption agency after allegedly being told they were the wrong ‘cultural heritage’ to adopt a white child.

British-born Sandeep and Reena Mander claim that Adopt Berkshire told them not to apply to become adoptive parents because white British or European applicants would be given preference.

A spokesman for Adopt Berkshire, a combined adoption service jointly run by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and their unitary partners, said: ‘We do not comment on ongoing court cases.’
