Review to put council admin costs in the spotlight

Public services minister, Leighton Andrews, has commissioned a review of administrative costs across all local authorities in Wales.

Mr Andrews said he had made it clear to all local authorities that they should reduce spending on administration and backroom services.

He said: ‘This review will enable me and local authorities to compare and contrast expenditure and understand where practice should be changed to move a greater proportion of the spending to delivering services to citizens.’

A spokesperson for the Welsh Government said the findings would ‘help inform our work to reform local government and will identify opportunities for a shared service approach’.
