Minister announces £100,000 to boost town centres

High Streets Minister Jake Berry has announced the latest round of funding to make shopping centres more attractive to business.

The four successful applicants to share £100,000 from the Business Improvement Districts Loan Fund are Armley in Leeds, Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Christchurch, Dorset and Digbeth, Birmingham.

Mr Berry said the money will support business owners and local leaders to bring communities together, deliver additional local services and transform commercial areas.

He said: 'Business Improvement Districts in partnership with local authorities, developers and communities are working hard to champion town centres by deciding what improvements they want to see, how these will be managed and what it will cost.

'Those high streets and town centres performing strongest often have BIDs at their core, driving improvements that boost footfall, encourage consumer spending and ensure our high streets are fit for the future.'
