Liverpool City Council is to bring its waste collection service in-house in a bid to improve recycling rates.
Since 2016, Liverpool’s waste collections have been carried out by the council-owned firm Liverpool Streetscene Services.
Council leader Liam Robinson said: ‘I am confident that insourcing the service would give the council more control over frontline delivery and help achieve our promise to make our streets cleaner, tackle fly-tipping and reduce litter.’
A joint working group between the firm and council managers is being established to consider the proposal, which would involve 600 staff transferring to the council.
Details will be considered by senior councillors early next year.
