The first leader of North Northamptonshire Council has announced he is stepping down at the local elections in May to ‘transition into semi-retirement’.
Cllr Jason Smithers became the authority’s first leader after it was established as a result of local government reform in April 2021.
‘I feel that I have helped get the authority off to a solid start,’ he said.
‘Now feels like the right time for me to transition into semi-retirement, focus more on my family and on new opportunities ahead.’
