The Government has urged councils to be ready to use their legal powers to combat rioting as authorities remain on high alert for further disorder.

While the riots' frequency has diminished in recent days, deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has warned the ‘risks have not gone away' and said ‘we are looking at what more support the Government can provide' to councils.
