Councils under government intervention could be exempt from a legal ban on so-called fire and rehire practices after the latest amendment to the Employment Rights Bill.

Under the original Bill, dismissing staff for failing to agree to fresh contract terms would be outlawed, with an exemption for private firms in financial difficulty.
