Anti-privatisation groups demand greater transparency

Liverpool City Council has backed a campaign by the anti-privatisation group We Own It demanding greater transparency over outsourcing services.

A motion passed with cross-party support urges the council's cabinet to 'provide a statement explaining what the council is doing in practice to work towards the principles of transparency, accountability and placing people and service delivery as key considerations in procurements before profit.'

The Labour-led council has already brought some services previously outsourced or run as joint ventures back in house.

Leader of the council's Green group Tom Crone said: 'It's time to take a stand against out of control outsourcing and make sure residents have a say over their services.'
