Multi-academy trusts (MATs) have ‘significantly higher’ annual turnover of classroom teachers at secondary level than council-maintained schools, according to a new study.
The findings are part of a report published today by the Education Policy Institute (EPI) that compares the performance of school groups.
The think tank found that annual teacher turnover for MATs stands at 19.5% on average compared with just 14.4% at the median local authority.
The research also found that MATs with 10 or more schools have on average higher rates of persistent absence, suspension, and unexplained exits?than smaller MATs and local authorities.
The EPI also called on the Department for Education to publish easily accessible metrics for school groups to allow users to see their strengths and weaknesses.
