Tower Hamlets campaigner to run for office

The man who led the succesful legal challenge against the mayor of Tower Hamlets LBC is to run for office.

Andy Erlam said he would stand to ‘change every aspect of the council’.

He said: ‘If elected I will end the cult of personality at the town hall and investigate and change every aspect of the council with the many good officers who I know have been frustrated and blocked for years.

Mr Erlam, 64, described last week's ruling as ‘fantastic for democracy’ but said more inquiries were needed.

He has urged police to investigate and called on prosecutors to consider bringing criminal charges.

A mayoral election will be held on 11 June but Mr Rahman, who said he was taking further legal advice, has been barred from running for office for five years.
