Glasgow City Council has approved a £674m programme to build more than 6,500 affordable homes as it responds to the city's housing emergency.
The Strategic Housing Investment Programme covers 2027/28 to 2031/32 and also includes support for housing associations to buy 430 homes for social rent.
Of the new homes, 74% will be for social rent, 24% for mid-market rent and 2% for shared equity or private rent.
Council officers have also identified 59 sites that could deliver 12,173 homes if extra Government funding becomes available.
Repurposing vacant commercial floors as housing will be explored too, supporting a target of 40,000 city centre residents by 2035.
The plan prioritises larger family homes, with 40 four-bedroom-plus properties a year, and wheelchair-adaptable housing.
Cllr Ruairi Kelly, Depute Leader and Convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: ‘Working in partnership with local housing associations, housebuilders and the wider housing sector we want to be clear to Government that Glasgow gets things built: and if they are able to increase our housing budget, we can build and acquire even more.’
