Congestion charge fees could surge by £40m next year, analysis has revealed.
Due to the £3 increase in congestion charge fees beginning January next year, motorists that drive into London from Monday to Friday will be paying £4,500 annually, according to research from online used car retailer cinch.
Commenting on the £750 increase in congestion charge fees for commuters, Ben Welham, motoring expert at cinch said: ‘Our analysis, based on 250 working days per year, highlights the heavy financial impact the increase will have on individual drivers and businesses.’
Based on a Freedom of Information request sent to Transport for London (TfL), researchers found that the accumulation of congestion charge payments between April 2024 and March 2025 totalled at £202.8m.
Cinch researchers have also indicated that TfL revenue could exceed £243m next year following the £15 to £18 fee increase.
Mr Welham added: ‘EV drivers will be hit with the charge for the first time [from January], but car drivers will get 25% off and van drivers will get 50% off the daily £18 fee by setting up Auto Pay. Petrol and diesel HGV drivers can also benefit from a 50% saving by using Auto Pay.’
