City of Doncaster Council chief executive Damian Allen has threatened legal action against the leader and deputy leader of the council's Reform UK group.
According to Reform councillors Craig Ward and Jason Charity, the legal threat was sparked by a motion raising serious governance concerns over Mr Allen’s conduct in relation to the £193m Doncaster Sheffield Airport reopening project.
Mr Allen’s personal solicitors have since written to Cllr Charity accusing him of defamation and demanding a retraction, an apology and payment of legal costs, according to a statement from Reform UK.
Cllr Charity said he regards the legal threat as ‘frivolous’ and rejects it ‘in fact and in law’, adding: 'I will not retract, I will not apologise and I will not be silenced.’
A council statement described the potential legal action as a ‘personal matter’ for Mr Allen.
Mr Allen has been contacted for comment.
