The London Borough of Harrow has pledged to take action after it constructed a cycle lane in a section of road where there was already a digital advertising screen in place.
Cyclists using the two and a half metre wide lane on Marsh Road in Pinner are currently forced to swerve around the BT operated screen, which was installed four years ago.
The North West London council has asked BT to relocate the screen to ensure the lane can be used more easily by cyclists.
‘We can confirm that the digital screen was installed before construction of the Pinner to Harrow Cycleway began,’ admitted a spokesperson for the council.
They added: ‘We have applied for it to be relocated and are working to ensure it is moved as soon as possible.
‘Once the cycleway works are complete and the screen has been removed, cyclists will be able to use the new cycle lane.’
The Harrow to Pinner Cycleway is being constructed by the local authority in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) to ‘make walking and cycling between Harrow Town Centre and Pinner Station safer, greener, and more convenient’, according to the council.
This is being carried out in four stages, with work on the final stage in Marsh Road starting earlier this year.
In March, TfL announced it would invest just under £95m in 2026/27 across London boroughs and the City of London as part of a three-year programme to improve the capital’s streets.
This is being used for cycle routes, improving safety near schools, pedestrian crossings and other road safety measures.
