Landlords have voiced alarm over plans to bolster council powers to bring empty homes back into use.

Labour plans to target landlords who are ‘paid through the benefits system but refuse to reinvest anything in the upkeep of the property' and will enable councils to ‘compulsory purchase properties that fall below acceptable standards' by reforming Empty Dwelling Management Orders (EDMOs), which allow local authorities to take over the management of unoccupied homes for up to seven years.
