Birmingham City Council has begun legal action to regain ownership of a primary school it sold by mistake more than a decade ago.
George Dixon Primary School and a house were transferred in 2013 for £395,000 because of incorrect paperwork.
Sukhjit Bains, a business owner, initially agreed to return the school but reportedly later stopped communicating.
Mr Bains only discovered the error in 2024, when the council sought to reclaim the school. His solicitor has said the transfer was to NH Care Ltd, not to him personally.
A council spokesperson said an issue had been identified in historic documentation relating to the 2013 transaction. They said the council was pursuing the appropriate legal process, adding it would be inappropriate to comment further while proceedings continue.
‘We remain committed to safeguarding public assets and acting in the best interests of residents, pupils and the school community,’ they added.
