Residents in West Bridgford are set to be asked whether the area should get its own town council.
Rushcliffe Borough Council accepted a petition from the West Bridgford Local Area Forum on Thursday (17 September), calling for a Community Governance Review.
The petition had more than 2,800 valid signatures, passing the 2,385 (7.5% of electors) needed to trigger the review.
The first round of consultation, involving residents and local businesses, is due to take place in November.
The forum says a town council would better match policies and resources to local needs, enhance a sense of place and increase community empowerment and engagement.
There will be two stages of consultation over the next 12 months, with a final decision due at full council in September 2027. A councillor working group will lead the review and make a recommendation.
