Kirklees MBC chief executive, Rob Vincent, who is to take over troubled Doncaster City Council as interim chief, has been made a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
He is among a batch of local government managers and councillors who received awards. They include outgoing London Councils chairman, Merrick Cockell, leader of Kensington and Chelsea RLBC, who receives a knighthood. George Black, Glasgow City chief, was made a CBE, as was outgoing Stockport MBC chief, John Schultz.Jenny Owen, director of adult services at Essex CC and president of theAssociation of Directors of Adult Social Services, was also made a CBE.Edward Chorlton, former deputy chief at Devon CC; Tony Hunter, chief executive at North East Lincolnshire Council; and Nicola Yates, chief executive of Hull City Council, are made OBEs. An MBE is awarded to ex-Newtownabbey BC chief executive, Norman Dunn, for services to local government in Northern Ireland, and to West Lancashire DC chief, Bill Taylor, a columnist for The MJ.
OBEs go also to council leaders Michael Rye (Enfield LBC) Ken Taylor (Coventry City Council), and MBEs to Graham Baxter (North East Derbyshire DC) and Sandra Barnes (South Northamptonshire DC).
Steve Thomas, chief executive of the Welsh LGA, was made a CBE, as was Sarah Webb, head of the Chartered Institute of Housing. Peter Housden, outgoing permanent secretary of the department of communities and local government, who is moving to head up the Scottish Government, becomes a KCB.
