The new Reform leader of Havering Council has ruled out pursuing proposals for the borough to leave the Greater London Authority (GLA), saying residents would be ‘significantly worse off’ if it did.
Cllr Keith Prince dismissed the so-called 'Hexit' campaign in his maiden speech as leader, saying he had yet to see ‘a well-thought-out, researched and costed proposal’ outlining the benefits to residents.
Reform leader Nigel Farage has reportedly said: ‘Many feel that their association is with Essex and ever since 1965 have slightly resented being part of Greater London.’
He added: 'All I would say is that people ought to have the choice to make a decision on that.’
‘We will not be wasting our time pursuing Hexit or leaving the GLA,’ Cllr Prince said in his speech. ‘We will be concentrating our time and energies getting Havering back on track.’
