Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed it has issued a claim for judicial review over the Government's proposals for local government reorganisation in the county.
The council said it took the step after careful consideration of matters relating to the Government's decision-making process. The claim will now be considered through the court process.
The Government's preferred option would replace the nine existing city, county, district and borough councils with two unitary authorities.
The move follows a ‘pause’ to proceedings announced last month by Housing Secretary Angela Rayner.
Council leader Mick Barton said the authority had sought an explanation of how the decision was reached and the evidence behind it.
A judicial review examines the lawfulness of how a decision was made, not whether it was right or wrong.
