How the UK’s ‘unique and rich’ heritage can be preserved will be the subject of a consultation that will run this summer.
English Heritage is consulting before drawing up guidance for councils and developers on how to deal with planning applications and local plans affecting historic environments.
The British Property Federation (BPF) has already stressed the importance of dealing with development around heritage sites ‘sensitively and with clarity’.
Federation chief executive Liz Peace said: ‘The UK has a unique and rich heritage, and it is only right that buildings of historical importance should be conserved where possible while, at the same time, promoting the construction of new properties so that there is the perfect fusion of both old and new in our modern society.
‘The BPF fully supports the cooperation between English Heritage and planning authorities, and encourages clarity in this area.’
The consultation on historic environment good practice advice in planning will run until 5 September.
