Mayor Richard Parker has launched an initial £500,000 employment support package for JLR workers taking voluntary redundancy, with potential for further funding via the Department for Work and Pensions.
The response package follows JLR's announcement of up to 4,000 redundancies over the next two years. It aims to help affected workers find new jobs while retaining their skills within the West Midlands economy.
Parker said JLR had faced ‘an incredibly difficult period,’ from last year's cyber-attack to Middle East instability and global tariff uncertainty.
He said the £500,000 was ‘the starting point, not the limit’ of support, and that he had been in contact with Government ministers and trade unions over the weekend.
