An inquiry into whether local authorities can fulfil their statutory obligations with the funding available for adult social care has been launched today.
The Communities and Local Government (CLG) Committee has launched the inquiry into the financial sustainability of local authority social care and the quality of care provided.
It will also explore new ways of financing and providing care, and will examine the impact of policies such as the social care council tax precept.
Chair of the Committee, Clive Betts, said: 'Adult social care provides a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable people in society but is coming under increasing pressure as a result of growing demand and declining local authority budgets.
'Our inquiry will look at the financial sustainability of this care and support to see what can be done to allow councils to continue to meet their legal obligations for future generations.'
