Lambeth Council has confirmed that it is due to review the possibility of introducing a four-day week trial.
The council’s Green Party administration has requested the review, due to belief that the pilot could reduce employee sickness rates, boost productivity, and decrease staff turnover – therefore generating savings on recruitment.
It comes after South Cambridgeshire District Council introduced the pilot scheme in 2023 and voted to adopt the structure permanently last July.
A council spokesperson said that the review will ‘assess if it is possible, and any benefits the move could deliver’.
The council’s decision will reportedly see it become the first local authority in London to trial a four-day week, according to The Standard.
