Arts Council England has released a new checklist to help local authority museums prepare for the current wave of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).

The guidance sets out 10 actions for museum leaders, covering everything from workforce communications and stakeholder mapping to data audits, advocacy and compliance with external accreditation standards such as Museum Accreditation.

A central concern running through the checklist is that museums, as non-statutory services, risk being overlooked in LGR planning processes dominated by larger service areas such as adult social care and children's services.

The guidance urges museum leaders to proactively ensure their services are represented in both current authority planning teams and the transition teams shaping new unitary structures.
