Green space, clean air and community connection matter more to people than how buildings look when it comes to new housing developments, according to new national polling.
Research commissioned by the Landscape Institute and conducted by Ipsos found overwhelming public support for greener, better-planned developments, with landscape seen as integral to what people value rather than an afterthought.
Key findings show 90% of respondents consider green features between buildings and pavements important, 89% say access to communal green spaces matters when choosing a home, 83% value nature conservation in housing development, and 78% want features that help manage rainwater.
Carolin Göhler, President of the Landscape Institute, said the findings confirmed that ‘a shift in thinking is needed to consider the whole area and the natural system in which a development is taking place.’
