A local councillor from Camden is challenging Green Party leader Zack Polanski in his attempt to win a byelection seat.
The opposition involves Camden Council representative, Hamza Chowdhury, who has put himself forward as a Green Party candidate in the Holborn and St Pancras byelection on October 8.
Zack Polanski revealed last Thursday that he will be vying for the seat, which has become available following Keir Starmer’s resignation as an MP.
However, in an Instagram post yesterday, Cllr Chowdhury said that he has been nominated by 6 additional Camden Green councillors: Cllr James White, Cllr Victoria Mary, Cllr Lorna Russels, Cllr Richard Atkins, Cllr Lilac Carr, and Cllr Jim Monahan.
The statement reads: ‘This is an incredible constituency, and as a British Bengali who was born here, I believe a Global Majority candidate is best placed not only to win this seat, but to properly represent the extraordinary diversity of the communities who call Holborn & St Pancras home.’
‘We don’t need another MP who arrives during an election campaign, puts out a few leaflets, makes a few promises and disappears once the votes are counted. We need an MP who is present, accessible and visibly part of the community all year round’, it adds.
