Government proposals to create a new national schools funding formula would see £30bn given directly to schools instead of local authorities.
Under the plans, funding would be based around a basic amount per pupil, with additional money for areas that have high levels of deprivation, low prior attainment or where English is an additional language.
Education secretary Nicky Morgan said: ‘The introduction of a national funding formula from 2017/18 will see the biggest step towards fairer funding in over a decade, ensuring that pupils get funding that genuinely matches their need.
‘It will also ensure that pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds continue to receive significant additional funding to overcome entrenched barriers to their success.’
