Enfield Council’s plans to develop a surfing lake could create around 200 jobs.
Proposals to create the inland surfing complex have been backed by the council’s planning committee and will involve the redevelopment of the Lea Valley.
The 100-acre project will encompass areas of Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Park, as well as Lee Valley Golf Course, with the latter due to be scaled down to accommodate the facility.
Alongside the artificial lake, the scheme will also aim to deliver green spaces, play areas and sites for wellness practices.
According to the council’s planning document, the project will provide 200 jobs and ‘continuous employment skills and training development opportunities which will support both the local economy and local community’.
Hazel Geary, chief executive of Crest Experiences, told the BBC that the free park will offer the ‘opportunity to play, relax and explore’, with discounted prices available to residents.
