Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has launched a campaign to challenge misconceptions about who commits femicide.
A series of short films makes the point that men who kill women do not fit one profile. Perpetrators are often people known to victims, such as partners, neighbours or trusted members of the community.
Almost 30 women have been killed by men in Northern Ireland since 2020, the council said, and the region continues to see some of the highest levels of violence against women.
Lord Mayor Cllr Mary O'Dowd said femicide was not committed by ‘monsters hiding in the shadows’ but most often by men in everyday life.
The campaign was created with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, the Southern and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trusts, and The Executive Office. It will run across the council's digital channels over the coming weeks.
