Plans for a £100m regeneration of Bolton’s long-vacant Church Wharf site in the town centre have been officially approved.
Developer Watson has secured planning permission from Bolton Council for the mixed-use scheme, which will deliver 415 new homes, a 130-bedroom hotel, and commercial spaces across the 7.5-acre riverside site.
The development will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and houses, with a proportion allocated for affordable housing, alongside restaurants, shops, and leisure facilities.
The three-phase project is expected to attract more than 1,000 residents, generate £7m in annual local spending, and support 1,500 jobs, injecting £64m in gross value into the local economy.
The development is supported by £5m from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Brownfield Housing Fund and follows the council’s provisional agreement to sell the land earlier this year.
