Westminster City Council has created a new senior cabinet position focused on keeping the city's streets safe, in what it says is a first for the authority.
The cabinet member for enforcement role will be held by deputy leader Cllr Caroline Sargent, and will provide leadership across a wide range of council enforcement powers — from tackling anti-social behaviour, graffiti and careless dumping of e-bikes and e-scooters, to overseeing the City Inspector teams and Night Stars volunteers.
The role will also focus on nuisance rough sleeping, licensing, consumer protection and problems caused by short-term let properties, with the council working alongside police and criminal justice partners.
Cllr Sargent said anti-social behaviour was a clear priority for residents, adding that whatever form it takes, it has ‘a corrosive effect on the quality of life.’
‘This is about taking action and showing people that we are making a real difference on the streets,’ she added.
