Two councils have been issued with regulatory notices after failing to meet health and safety requirements for tenants.
The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has issued Newark and Sherwood DC and Great Yarmouth Borough Council regulatory notices for breaching the Home Standard.
It found Newark and Sherwood DC failed to complete hundreds of gas safety checks, causing the potential for serious detriment to tenants.
Cllr Tim Wendels, the council’s portfolio holder for homes, said: ‘We will work with the regulator to ensure our performance has returned to our previous excellent level and that our arrangements in place to prevent this happening again are robust.
‘The safety of tenants and leaseholders remains our highest priority and we would like to sincerely apologise for falling below the standards our tenants expect.’
RSH also found Great Yarmouth Borough Council failed to meet statutory requirements for fire, gas, electrical, asbestos and water safety.
Cllr Carl Smith, council leader, said: 'We take the maintenance of our housing stock and the safety of our tenants and leaseholders extremely seriously. We also always aim to be upfront and transparent about any problems we discover. That's why we voluntarily reported these issues - and our action plan to fix them - to the RSH in August.'
