The Conservative Party has selected Trafford councillor Phil Eckersley as its candidate for the upcoming Greater Manchester mayoral by-election.
Cllr Eckersley, who serves as the group's deputy leader and shadow executive member for health and care, said he was ‘honoured’ to have been chosen.
‘I’m proud to represent the Conservatives and will work hard to give people across GM a strong voice, a serious alternative, and a campaign they can believe in,’ he added.
The by-election was triggered by Andy Burnham's election as MP for Makerfield and his subsequent move to lead the Labour Party.
