The Conservatives are setting up a new trade union group to win over ‘moderate’ unionists.
Speaking to The House magazine, Robert Halfon the Conservative deputy chairman, said the new movement would ‘provide a voice for Conservative-minded and moderate trade unionists’.
He said: ‘We are recreating the Conservative trade union workers’ movement. There will be a new website and people will be able to join.
'There will be a voice for moderate trade unionists who feel they may have sympathy with the Conservatives or even just feel that they’re not being represented by militant trade union leaders.’
The Tories have come under fire from trade unions recently, who say the Trade Union Bill attacks workers' right to strike.
Unite the Union have also slammed the Government over plans to stop council staff from paying union subs directly from their wages, branding the move a ‘malicious’ political manoeuvre.
