A group of Conservative MPs has called for tax cuts for areas where new housing is built.
The Conservative Growth Group (CCG) of MPs, which has about about 50 members, suggested offering reductions on council tax to reduce opposition from communities to new developments.
Alongside reforms to the planning system to boost infrastructure, the CCG suggested the move could unlock the development of cities - including a million new homes in London - without having to impose targets centrally.
The group is led by Ranil Jayawardena, a former environment secretary under Liz Truss.
Mr Jayawardena likened the proposals to the New Homes Bonus, but benefits would go directly to residents rather than cash being 'spent by the council on their behalf’.
