The trade association representing pubs in England and Wales have welcomed an extension of the licensing rules that allow landlords to sell takeaway pints.
The rules, which were granted in July 2020 to support the hospitality sector during the lockdown, allow pubs without an off-premises licence to sell takeaway alcohol without having to apply to their local council for permission.
Originally set to expire on 30 September, the licensing rules will now be extended until March 2025, according to the Government.
Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), welcomed the move.
‘The Prime Minister’s decision to step in and stop even more red tape being applied to our industry is hugely welcome,’ she said.
‘He realises the value of allowing our pubs to diversify and innovate and I’m sure business owners up and down the country will be pleased to not have to apply for additional licenses for something that has become much the norm over the past few years.’
